For Patients

Exam preparation instructions

Please review the instructions for your scheduled exam. If the instructions from your physician or our scheduling team are different, follow those specific instructions.

MRI and contrast safety must be reviewed by our staff. MRI and contrast safety must be reviewed by our staff. Do not self-medicate. Call the office before your exam if you have an implant, pacemaker, metal in your body, asthma, allergies, diabetes, kidney problems, or a prior contrast reaction.

MRI / MRA (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)+

Please inform us if you have surgical vascular clips, neurostimulators, cochlear implants, a breast tissue expander, an IVC filter, penile implants, or silver-backed dermal patches. Do not wear eye makeup. Music is available during the examination. Patients with pacemakers, cerebral aneurysm clips, or ferromagnetic implants must contact us before the appointment.

Breast MRI+

Breast MRI requires specific preparation. Please inform our staff of any implants, prior surgeries, or allergies to contrast agents. Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. Avoid wearing jewelry or metal accessories. Our technologists will guide you through the procedure.

CT Scan+

For most CT exams, no special preparation is needed. If contrast is ordered, you may be asked to fast for a few hours before the exam. Please inform us of any allergies, kidney problems, diabetes, or prior contrast reactions. Wear comfortable clothing without metal.

Abdominal Sonogram+

For an abdominal sonogram, you will typically be asked to fast for 6–8 hours before the exam. This helps ensure clear images of the abdominal organs. You may drink water. Please wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing.

OB and Pelvic Sonogram+

For a pelvic sonogram, you may be asked to drink water and arrive with a full bladder. For obstetric ultrasounds, specific preparation depends on the gestational age. Our scheduling team will provide detailed instructions when you book.

Digital Mammogram+

Do not apply deodorant, antiperspirant, powder, lotion, or perfume under your arms or on your breasts on the day of the exam. Wear a two-piece outfit for easy undressing. Bring prior mammogram images if available.

DEXA+

No special preparation is needed for a DEXA scan. Avoid calcium supplements for 24 hours before the exam. Wear comfortable clothing without metal zippers or buttons. The scan is quick, painless, and requires no enclosed scanner.

Attention All Patients+

Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment to complete any necessary paperwork. Bring your insurance card, photo ID, and physician's order. If you have had prior imaging studies relevant to your exam, please bring those images and reports. Contact our office if you have any questions before your visit.

Understanding your coverage before your exam.

Jersey Advanced MRI participates with most insurance plans. Some health plans require pre-certification and/or a referral form. We can help you verify insurance coverage before your study. All paperwork required by your health plan must be completed before a radiological examination can be performed. Please check with your insurance provider for details specific to your plan. If insurance coverage is denied, we will work with you to establish an alternate payment arrangement. Please contact our office if you need clarification or assistance.
